About our Club

We are an active club that provides a number of services to our 40+ members in the Tawa-Pukerua Bay area of Porirua City, New Zealand. The ages of our multiple birth children range from newborns to adults, and include twins and triplets. Our services for parents/caregivers and children are listed below.

Telephone Support

We provide a friendly ear and help with specific issues by telephone any time of the day or night for parents and caregivers. Contact our President for more information.

Social Occasions

Morning Teas - We meet and chat like any other coffee group, with our children. It can be one of the best forms of support when you can bounce ideas off others who have been there before you. We meet fortnightly at the Plimmerton Pavillion. Contact our Social Coordinator for more information.

Evening Get Togethers - Another opportunity to get together and chat - this time without the littlies. Chocolate and other delectables a must, and guest speakers are sometimes organised!

Family Events - Occasionally we gather at a family (and multiple) friendly venue, eg Chipmunks, Aotea Lagoon, for an enjoyable outing with our children.

Conferences - Attend a Multiple Birth Conference, held at a different venue in New Zealand each year.

Check our Events Calendar for more information about local upcoming events.

Assistance with Information

We can tell you what home help and childcare assistance you are entitled to, and able to help you complete relevant forms when you apply to WINZ. Also look at the Family Assistance rates for low and middle income families in New Zealand, or phone 0800 774 004.

Library Books

We have a large selection of library books about pregnancy, birth and raising multiples - twins, triplets and more. Contact our Club Librarian to make an appointment to view the books, or have a look in the Library Box at the next club gathering.

Grocery Hampers

Parents of newborn twins who are members of the KMMBC will receive a grocery hamper. Provided we have adequate funding this comprises of a "baby essentials" hamper and then approximately one week's worth of groceries. The groceries mainly consist of ingredients for easily prepared meals much of which is frozen goods. Once we are informed of the arrival of the babies, our Meals Officer will make contact with the parents to arrange a suitable time for drop off.

Nappies

Thanks to Huggies, every member receives a box (144 nappies) when their babies are born.

Clothing Grabs

Four times a year we get together to swap pre-loved clothing. A fantastic way to save money or hand on unwanted clothing. It is all of good quality, and is pre-sorted into age groups. Clothing may be dropped off at any time to our Clothing Coordinator.

Hire Equipment

The Club has a huge range of equipment for hire. Why spend money buying your own when you can hire from the club. Lots of brand new equipment ready for you and your family to use, including buggies, frontpacks, portacots, jolly jumpers, and equipment for breastfeeding mums. Contact our Equipment Officer for more information, or view our Equipment for Hire brochure (198KB pdf).

Buddy Support

The Buddy System enables club members to have someone whom they can turn to for help, advice, or just a general chat whilst getting settled into the different phases of parenting multiples. This is done on a 1-1 relationship with another twin mum who has "been there, done that", and who can hopefully (or at least attempt to) provide the necessary support and advice to make the job of parenting multiples that little bit easier.

If you wish to participate in the Buddy System, please contact our Buddy Coordinator who will match you up with a buddy.

Membership

The membership fee is $40.00 per calendar year (from 1 January), regardless of when you join, (except those with school-age twins, it is $20 per year). This covers your membership, regular newsletters, any venue hire for coffee mornings, updating the library, special assistance and support when required, the annual Christmas party and various activities during the year.

If you would like to join the committee to help provide continued support of members and new families, please contact any of the people on the committee for more details. You won't need to offer twice!
